Dragos CEO and Co-Founder Robert M. Lee Named Security Executive of the Year by SC Media

Lee recognized for OT cybersecurity leadership and contributions to industrial community

Hanover, MD – August 22, 2022 – Dragos Inc., the global leader in cybersecurity for industrial controls systems (ICS)/operational technology (OT) environments, announced today that CEO and Co-Founder Robert M. Lee has won the 2022 SC Awards in Excellence for Security Executive of the Year. Now in its 25th year, the SC Awards are considered the industry gold standard of accomplishment for cybersecurity professionals, products, and services. 

At Dragos, Lee led teams to deliver the Dragos Platform, offering cybersecurity technology to help customers identify their ICS/OT assets, manage vulnerabilities, and see and respond to threats to reduce their OT risk. Lee also launched Neighborhood Keeper, a free, opt-in, anonymized information-sharing network available to all Dragos Platform customers. Participants include sector-specific intelligence communities, private sector industrial organizations, and select government agencies.

Lee led Dragos to become the number-45 Fastest-Growing Company in North America on the 2021 Deloitte Technology Fast 500, and earlier this year Earnst and Young recognized Lee as an Entrepreneur of the Year. Forbes named Lee to its 30 under 30 (2016) list as one of the “brightest entrepreneurs, breakout talents, and change agents” in enterprise technology. With his team at Dragos he has been involved in the most significant cyberattacks on industrial infrastructure, including the investigation and analysis of the 2016 attack on Ukraine’s electric system, the 2017 TRISIS attack on a Saudi Arabian petrochemical facility in the first attempt to try to kill people through malicious software, and the 2021 Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack.

In addition to serving as CEO of Dragos, Lee serves on the Department of Energy’s Electricity Advisory Committee as the Vice Chair of the Department of Energy’s Grid Resilience for National Security Subcommittee, and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s subcommittees on Cyber Resilience for the Oil & Gas and Electricity communities. 

Lee began his work in ICS/OT cybersecurity as a U.S. Air Force Cyber Warfare Operations Officer tasked to the National Security Agency, where he built a first-of-its-kind mission identifying and analyzing national threats to industrial infrastructure. He helped lead the investigation into the 2015 attack on Ukraine’s power grid, the first time an electric system was taken down due to a cyberattack. He went on to build the industrial community’s first dedicated monitoring and incident response class at the SANS Institute (ICS515) and the industry recognized cyber threat intelligence course (FOR578).
