New for 2021: Dragos Capture the Flag at DISC 2021

Leslie Corbo

The annual Dragos Industrial Security Conference (DISC) on November 5 is where we cram our best research into a full day of ICS-focused cybersecurity content. For the first time this year, we are offering a Dragos Capture the Flag event. We’ve assisted numerous conferences and ICS cyber events with Capture the Flags (CTF) in the past, which have been both fun to build and very well received. So, why wouldn’t we want to do this at our own conference?

This Dragos CTF will be held online and be accessible to all approved DISC attendees. The competition begins on November 2 at 12 pm EDT and ends on November 4 at 12 pm EDT.

What’s Unique About a Dragos CTF?

A Dragos CTF is developed to expose players to industrial control systems (ICS) through puzzles, with a heavy slant toward defense and forensic concepts. These puzzles range from programmable logic controller logic challenges to network protocol puzzles to flags embedded in memory dumps gathered from engineering workstations. Some of these activities are taken from playbooks by Threat Activity Groups, while others are influenced by Dragos’s customer engagements and experience. Dragos labs are also built on various real-world cyber ranges, including our brewery located at Dragos HQ.

If you’ve played in a Dragos CTF before, we have refactored many of our older puzzles and expanded the game with both easier and more complex challenges.

Who Should Play?

Whether it’s your first time tackling a cybersecurity competition or you’re a more seasoned practitioner, a Dragos CTF is designed to be approachable, educational, and steadily increase in difficulty in order to challenge anyone in the ICS/OT community.

Because it’s running continuously for two full days from November 2-4, players can join on their own schedule, no matter where they are in the world.

How Do I Register for DISC CTF?

Registration for DISC CTF is limited to approved DISC attendees. Register your interest to join the only cyber security conference focused on the mission of owners and operators defending industrial assets today.
